Meet the (fabulous) #HarpoonRaodTrip Team!

I recently sat down with the Harpoon Road Trip team to chat about their upcoming trip down Route 95. For Mike, Carolyn, and Dan, (New England natives) this is their first real trip as adults to the South. As a former Alabamian (7 years ya’ll), the South holds a special place in my heart and I was excited to hear what they were looking forward to most during their 2 week journey. And though I am a tad jealous I can’t tag along, I can’t wait to see (and share) what they capture on the Go Pro during their trip!
You got a new set of wheels this year; congrats! Not to bring up the past but are you, ugh, hoping for less car trouble this round?
C: Oh yes! We’ve had some car trouble in the past, and with 50+ hrs crammed together in one vehicle for this upcoming trip, our sanity depends on it. Luckily for us, we have a BRAND NEW 2014 Chevy Traverse decked-out in complete Harpoon getup, awaiting its maiden voyage down the East coast for this epic Southern Road Trip!!! Can you tell that I’m excited?
D: This is my first road trip with the team however, I’m no stranger to car trouble in my own everyday life– hopefully I’m not just bad luck!
From Boston to Florida is 3,400 miles. Tell me you guys have planned some road trip games and made some awesome playlists…
C: Our car is so new that the 3 month trial period for the SiriusXM radio will still be available for the trip. YES! Looks like we’ll be all set for tunes.
D: My go-to is the alphabet game – finding each letter of the alphabet in order on highway signs. It sounds like a walk in the park, but you tell me the next time you see a J or a Q out there on the road!
M: I'm always up for "Zitch Dog". For everyone who doesn't watch How I Met Your Mother, here's a link to the basic premise of the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1QPZ1O49rY
The Southern culture is undoubtable different than our culture up here in New England. What are you most excited to experience/learn/be a part of?
C: Southerners are just so darn nice! I’m really looking forward to exploring their cities and having a few beers with the locals. This road trip would not be complete without experiencing (and by experiencing, I mean devouring) all of their favorite local dishes. You name it, we’ll try it! At least once.
M: I have been to Florida a couple of times, but I was either too young to drink or I was down there to play baseball, so I never really got to experience the bar scene down south. I’m excited to check it out!
Lately anything over 20 degrees feels like spring here in Boston. Are you planning to take advantage of the warmer weather with any cool outdoor activities?
D: I know, right? I’m just about done with this winter – even a lifelong Bostonian knows when to call it quits! Just being able to drive with the windows down is going to do wonders for my sanity.
M: I realized I didn’t bring a bathing suit up here when I moved this past August so getting one is on my to-do list in the next few days. That and sunscreen. Definitely gonna need to get sun screen. I have only been to a Miami beach once and it was cloudy/raining and we couldn't go in the water because it was shark migration season or something. Hopefully I'll have more luck this time around!
C: We do have a few really cool activities planned for the trip, including a horse drawn carriage ride in Charleston, a haunted ghost tour in Savannah, paddle boarding in Key West and a sunset beach walk with brews in Fort Myers. Sounds too fun to be work, right?!
What part(s) of the Harpoon culture are you most excited to expose our Friends down South to?
D: Definitely the “Love beer, love life” mantra that we hold so true here at Harpoon – and the idea that life is already awesome, but great beer and great friends make it that much better!
C: Our fun-loving, adventurous lifestyle. Harpooners always love to try new things with friends and share stories over a few beers. I’m sure that our Friends down South will help us with the fun experiences, and we’ll hold true to our end of the deal with the beers!
M: I am excited to show off our New England style IPA and turn some people on to a style of beer they may not have gone for or tried before.
You’ll be visiting some awesome breweries along the way. Which one(s) are you most excited about?
D: I know we’re planning on hitting Holy City Brewing in Charleston and Southbound Brewing in Savannah, so naturally I’ve been taking a sneak peek at some of their beers online. I haven’t had either yet, and they both look like they have some awesome stuff that I can’t wait to try! Just getting to see how other breweries around the country operate and spread their love of great beer is something I can’t wait to be a part of.
C: The folks at Southbound Brewing in Savannah, GA seem to be pretty awesome! They even went out of their way to set up a “Brothers in Brewing” event where their patrons can come meet up with us at the brewery as we sample brews and share our love for craft beer.
