Happy 20th, IPA
By: The Harpoon Team Published:

We’ve been told by many people over the years that, to them, the word “Harpoon” is synonymous with “IPA” and vice versa. That’s pretty good to hear. But when the first batch of Harpoon IPA was brewed as a summer seasonal back in 1993, we had no clue that it would become the beloved beer that it has today.
In fact, we weren’t sure if anyone would take to the medium-bodied, copper-colored, hoppy ale. There weren’t many local craft beers out there at the time (to say the least), much less one with a noticeably floral aroma and bitter finish. But it became very clear very quickly that New Englanders were ready for it. They loved it. We all did…and we still do.
This year Harpoon IPA turns 20, and we’re going to celebrate it because, well, that’s just what we do! Throughout 2013, we will be taking a look back at some of the fun we’ve had and at some of the fun things that are still to come, and we hope you will join us. Visit our event listings for more information about Harpoon events in your area.
And if you're ready for an IPA Adventure of your own, check out our beer finder to locate our lineup of Harpoon IPAs near you. Stay tuned for more announcements throughout the year, and thank you for joining us on the journey!
