At this time of year, all sorts of beer and liquor makers are running ads promising that their products will deck your halls and make your season merrier. Harpoon Brewery's smooth, rich 100 Barrel Series Imperial Stout will certainly add a glow to your celebrations, but the company has more than one way to make the holidays bright. Through their Harpoon Helps organization, the brewery dispatches volunteers laden with tinsel, colored lights, and boughs of holly to bring cheer to over a dozen Boston area shelters and community centers such as Project Hope in Dorchester. The lights and garland get packed up after the holidays, but the Imperial Stout will be on store shelves through January, and it is never too late to join Harpoon Helps. On Jan. 19 the organization will recruit volunteers for Horizons for Homeless Children, and on Jan. 26 they're holding a Red Cross Blood Drive in the Seaport District. |
