Harpoon Guide to Tasting Beer

Tasting beer requires five steps:

1. Appearance:

what is the color? how clear is the beer? did it produce a large head (foam)?, how much carbonation?

2. Aroma:

does the beer smellhoppy, malty, floral, or fruity?

3. Mouthfeel:

is your beer have a light, medium, or full body when it is in your mouth

4. Taste:

does your beer taste sweet, bitter, or malty

5. Finish:

when you finish your taste, does it linger or is it a crisp finish? do you have a sweet or dry taste in your mouth?

Glassware

“Glass matters: Hidden nuances become more pronounced, colors shimmer, and the enjoyment of the beer simply becomes a better, more complete experience” – BeerAdvocate.com

Most people are well acquainted with the established practice of serving wine in wine glasses, or martinis in martini glasses.  In Europe, the pairing of a particular beer with a particular glass is quite common, and with good reason.  The appropriate beer glass can enhance the enjoyment of the beer.  This is the result of a number of sensory impressions: for instance, the glass can concentrate the beer’s aroma, highlight the color of the beer, or simply feel good in the hand and on the lips.

We have paired each Harpoon beer with a certain glass.  We think the combination of the beer and the glass will make your Harpoon beer drinking experience even more enjoyable.
