Each year The Harpoon B2B makes donations to numerous organizations. Proceeds from the event are primarily directed to Harpoon Helps and the Team Psycho Elite Development Program. In 2009, the B2B raised over $64,000 to support these two great missions and various other organizations! - $18,698 donated to both Harpoon Helps and Team Psycho EDP
- $15,000 was donated to the Jim Kenary Brain Tumor Research Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute
- $3,500 was donated to the South Shore YMCA
Contributions were also made to the Pan Mass Challenge and numerous athletic teams for their support on ride day, including Blue Hills Cycling Club, Boston Triathlon Team, Bay State Lacrosse, the Boy Scouts of Winchester, NH and Paddle Power. In addition, the Windsor, VT Fire Department’s participation in the B2B made a $6,000 donation to the Fire Association and $500 was donated to the Local 4-H Club in Windsor. T eam Psycho cultivates promising athletes who wish to attain the highest level of competition in ITU Olympic distance races through the Elite Development Program (EDP). Sponsored athletes are provided with financial support to help them participate in ITU points races as well as with complimentary coaching and mentoring services from elite coaches and athletes. In 2008, the B2B helped TPEDP Athlete Jarred Schumaker compete in the summer Olympics in Beijing! Harpoon Helps is the philanthropic arm of the Harpoon Brewery. It's mission is to support local charities throughout New England with donations of fresh Harpoon beer and volunteer hours. Each year Harpoon donates thousands of dollars in merchandise and many barrels of beer to New England charities, and every month we invite Friends of Harpoon and Harpoon staff members to participate in Harpoon Helps missions. In 2009, 1,000 cases and 300 kegs were donated to 120 non-profit organizations in 12 states. Harpoon President and Co-Founder Dan Kenary lost his 50-year old brother Jim to a brain tumor early in 2007. Jim had been a serious athlete his entire life. Jim's inspiring battle against his brain tumor was aided by the wonderful people and the world-renowned research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dan has established a fund through the Friends for Brain Tumor Research in Jim's honor. Dan and his family thank you for your support.
