Results for the 2008 Harpoon Championships of New England Barbecue

The judges have eaten and the results are in for the 2008 Harpoon Championships of New England Barbecue.


Day 1: Saturday July 26, 2008

 

Four categories (Chicken, Ribs, Pork, and Brisket) are competed on the first day of the championships, with the overall score combined to determine the Grand Champion. The Grand Champion is the state champion of Vermont and will represent the state in the National Championships. For complete rules and scoring, visit the New England Barbecue Society.

 

Grand Champion for 2008:   I Smell Smoke

 

I Smell Smoke received 1st place in Ribs and scored in the top 10 in two other categories (Pork and Brisket) to lead the scoring and become the 2008 Grand Champion. I Smell Smoke was also the 2006 Grand Champion

Day 2: Sunday July 27, 2008

 

The second day of the championships is the Harpoon Summer Sizzler.  Four more categories (Chef's Choice, Chicken Wings, Pork Chops, and Sausage) are judged. For complete rules and scoring, visit the New England Barbecue Society.

Best Booth Competition

All festival attendees were asked to select the winner of the Best Booth Competition, sponsored by White River Toyota. The BBQ Team that received the most votes won $500. The winner of the inaugural Best Booth Competition is PORKOHOLICS.



Guess The Payload Contest


You may have entered the Toyota Tundra Guess the Payload Contest while at the Festival this weekend. We wanted to let you know that from the thousands of entries, we had 3 winners who all submitted guesses within 7 pounds of the total payload in the truckbed of the Toyota Tundra. The 10 full-sized kegs and 15 smaller kegs had a total weight of 2,857 pounds.

Harpoon and White River Toyota would like to congratulate the winners of the Guess the Payload Contest:

They will each receive a lunch package for 4 at the Harpoon Brewery Beer Garden and a Harpoon Gift Box for each guest.


Everyone at Harpoon would like to thank all of the teams who participated and vended at this year's championships as well as all of the KCBS judges who made the trip to oversee the competition. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
