The Angel Fund for A.L.S. Research

The Angel Fund is an independent nonprofit charity benefiting ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) research at the Cecil B. Day Laboratory for Neuromuscular Research at UMASS Medical. 100% of the funds raised by the Angel Fund go directly to ALS research.

Recently, Dr. Robert H. Brown Jr, and the Day Neuromuscular Research Lab at UMASS Medical have seen significant accomplishments in their program to discover new ALS genes. We have reported finding two new genes whose mutations cause familial ALS.

ALS (or Lou Gherig’s disease) is a fatal neuro-degenerative disease characterized by muscle weakness and a progressive wasting and paralysis of the muscles. There is no known cure for ALS, and death usually results from respiratory failure in 2 to 5 years.
