The Harpoon Brewery welcomes White Ale to their line of unfiltered beers Boston, MA (April 8, 2009) – The third offering in the Harpoon Brewery’s line of unfiltered beers has been released; introducing UFO White Ale. With a lingering spice character and a subtly sweet finish, UFO White is light on the palate and exceedingly refreshing – an ideal beer for the warm months of spring and summer. UFO White is brewed in the tradition of spiced wheat beers that originated in Belgium more than 300 years ago. Staying true to the style, Harpoon brewers added freshly ground orange peel and coriander to the whirlpool to give the beer a slightly sweet, delicately spiced flavor and aroma. The coriander is nutty and earthy with citrus notes that play well with the orange peel – a natural pair. A combination of Pale, Wheat, and Carapils malts provides a slightly sweet, bready malt body with subtle spice and yeast notes, adding complexity to the beer. An addition of Apollo hops was added to balance some of the sweetness. The beer remains unfiltered, which highlights the Harpoon house yeast’s distinctive fruity esters. UFO White Ale Statistics: Style: American White Ale ABV: 4.8% IBU: 10 OG: 12 P Color: 10 EBC Suggested Food Pairings: shellfish, seafood, soft cheeses, summer salads UFO White Ale will be available April through September in 6-packs. Harpoon introduced the UFO line, which stands for “UnFiltered Offering,” with a Hefeweizen in 1998, followed by a second year-round offering in 2006, a Raspberry Hefeweizen.
