Whether you’re planning the perfect cookout or just can’t wait to get your hand on a delicious Octoberfest brat - we’ve got the dogs for you. Check out some of the fancy ways to dress your hotdogs by adding the following toppings. We’ve added our Harpoon touch to these recipes by sharing our favorite complimentary beer to drink while eating your dog, or while making it - or both, we don’t judge (Inspired by Bon Appetit)
#1 The Dog Day’s of Summer
Summer may be coming to an end, but the warm weather hasn’t left just yet - so why not act accordingly by adding some fresh and summery mango chutney to your dog? Simply head to your local grocery store and pick some up! Feel free to mix your chutney with some onions, cilantro, and mustard to add even more flavor. This fruity reduction pairs perfectly with our Harpoon House Golden, a Kolsch style golden ale originally brewed for summertime.
#2 The Man’s Best Friend
Top your hotdog off with some next level tricolor pepper relish! Make it yourself by grabbing 3 large bell peppers: orange, red, and yellow. Dice ‘em up and toss them into a medium heatproof bowl. Next, pour 4 boiling cups of water over the diced peppers and steep them for 5 minutes before draining. In a separate medium saucepan, stir ¾ cup of white wine vinegar, ½ cup sugar, 1 ½ teaspoons yellow mustard seeds, ¾ teaspoons salt, and ⅓ teaspoon celery seeds until the sugar dissolves. Add in the peppers and simmer for about 15 minutes and wa-la, tricolor pepper relish! Pair this dog with our Harpoon IPA because nothing pairs better with a dog than relish, just like nothing pairs better with, well, anything, than our staple Harpoon IPA.
#3 The Drink it Down Dog
Spice up your hotdog with some poblano chiles, pepper jack cheese, and tomatillo salsa. Pro tip - sauté the chiles first! First, add oil to a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Then, add poblanos, onions, and salt, and sauté until the chiles soften (10 to 12 minutes). Dress your dogs with tomatillo salsa and cheese, and then add the sauteed poblanos to top ‘em off. Cool down afterwards with our crisp and refreshing Harpoon Flannel Friday.
#4 The I-just-can’t-wait-any-longer-until-Harpoon-Ofest Dog
Zicke, Zacke, Zicke, Zacke, Hoi, Hoi, Hoi! Top off this hotdog with some German beer-battered sauerkraut.
First, grab some sauerkraut from your local grocery store. Next, simmer 3 cups of sauerkraut, ½ cup of our Harpoon Octoberfest beer and 1 tablespoon of dark brown sugar in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 5 minutes. Season with pepper and you’re done! Now, take what’s left of the Octoberfest beer you used in the recipe and pair that with this dog, because obviously.
We’ve been celebrating Octoberfest since 1990. Don’t miss out, check out our Boston and Windsor events! And find all of the beers featured here in our Tailgater Mix Pack!
