We’re extremely fortunate to call one of the greatest cities in America home. The sports teams, the history, the food – we could go on for days. Given our love for beer (obviously), local food, and enjoying both with friends, we thought to ourselves, how could we bring our two loves together for one epic night?
Seeing what an awesome job KO Pie’s did with their Dundee Challenge last year, we’d thought we’d use our beer hall to bring in local restaurants to face off on their best take on pizza, tacos, burgers, you name it, every month. And so, Harpoon Brews & Foods was born.
Here’s the scoop: we invite 10 local restaurants to create shareable bites – a new theme every month- for you and your friends to enjoy over beers. At the end of the night, you vote on your favorite dish and a portion of the ticket sales will go to a local charity.
Last night we kicked off the first Harpoon Brews & Foods night with Soups & Stews. And let us tell you…it did not disappoint. Check out the participating restaurants below - they’ll tell you what they made and why they were inspired to make it. By the time you finish, you’ll be pretty hungry. Best mark your calendar for the next event on February 29th!
Restaurant: Barracuda Tavern
Soup or Stew: Lamb Stew
Inspiration: We love lamb, we love stew, and we love Harpoon. So it was the perfect event for us, plus it was for a great cause.

Soup or Stew: Stephi’s Harpoon Chili made with our Stephi's Homebrew
Inspiration: Winter in Boston can be harsh, but it’s a great excuse to make a delicious chili, and add in the beer & a great cause and you can’t go wrong!

Soup or Stew: Butternut Squash & Apple Soup, topped with cascade hop infused olive oil and harpoon cider candied papitas
Inspiration: Great food and great beer paired in a wonderful marriage

Restaurant: Lincoln Tavern
Soup or Stew: Beef Short Rib Stew. Marinated in wine for 2 days, smoked with wood fired turnip, golden turnip, Thumbelina carrots, Yukon gold potato and cippolini onions.
Inspiration: We love winter time in Boston and this stew pairs perfectly with that. Harpoon is also a local favorite so we were excited to participate in this first event.

Soup or Stew: Cheddar Broccoli Ale Soup
Inspiration: This event is all for a great cause, so we were excited to create a special soup just for the night!

Restaurant: Yankee Lobster
Soup or Stew: Lobster Bisque, served with fresh lobster meat
Inspiration: We are a family restaurant and use family recipes. Our chef combined an old traditional bisque with some new ingredients and his unique touch. This event was a great way to engage with customers and expose them to a different perspective of the hospitality industry. We serve this year round so be sure to come by for a bowl!

Soup or Stew: Chicken Chili
Inspiration: The chili pairs perfectly with a pint of Harpoon so it was an easy choice for us to make. We’re opening up this spring, so be sure to come by for a bowl of chili and a pint of Harpoon!

Soup or Stew: Texas State Pen Chili “Bar” w/ cheddar, chive sour cream, and spicy scotch bonnet mustard hot sauce (what is State Pen Chili you ask? No beans, no tomato – juts meat & spice!)
Inspiration: Kevin, my Harpoon Rep, begged us to make it. We find him at our bar enjoying it a few times a week (with a Harpoon in hand of course). It’s made with Harpoon IPA and pairs deliciously with all other Harpoon beers. We started “stews and brews” Monday at Blackstrap a few months ago. This is who we like to eat after a long day of skiing, it’s a New England tradition. We love Harpoon and we’re pumped to be a part of this first event.

Inspiration: We wanted to do something different than we serve every day, so Soups & Stews was the perfect opportunity for that. We love Harpoon so it was a great chance for us to work with them as well as other Boston restaurant mates.

Inspiration: We love Harpoon and we love Gumbo, so bringing the two together for an event like this was great. Plus, it’s all for a good cause. How could we say no?!
